Overview

Nestled in the heart of Sunshine North, Duong Melbourne offers an authentic Vietnamese dining experience that proudly showcases the rich culinary heritage of Vietnam’s northern and northwestern regions. Situated at 82 Warwick Rd, this vibrant restaurant is celebrated for its dedication to traditional flavors presented with fresh, quality ingredients that invite both newcomers and connoisseurs of Vietnamese cuisine.

The menu is a treasure trove of northern Vietnamese specialties, featuring standout dishes like Bún Chả — tender grilled pork served with vermicelli noodles — and the Free Range Chicken Coleslaw (Gỏi GÀ), a fresh, fragrant salad that balances succulent chicken with crunchy herbs. Duong Melbourne also delights with unique regional offerings such as Rựa Mận Heo, a savory pork stew infused with galangal, lemongrass, and fermented shrimp paste that exudes an intriguing, slightly tangy aroma uncommon in many Vietnamese eateries. The presence of smoked beef (Bò Gác Bếp) and grilled Northwest fish highlights the restaurant’s commitment to presenting authentic, lesser-known flavors.

The atmosphere mirrors the liveliness and warmth of a true Vietnamese family setting. The spacious dining area accommodates groups comfortably, enhancing the communal experience that Vietnamese food often evokes. This environment appeals especially to those seeking genuine, heartfelt dining where family-style dishes can be shared among friends or loved ones.

Customer feedback frequently praises Duong Melbourne for its precise cooking and well-balanced tastes. Dishes like the Xôi Xá Xíu — sticky rice with char siu pork — receive high marks for their perfect blend of texture and flavor. Others highlight the freshness and harmony in simpler plates, such as the fragrant chicken and herb combinations. While some reviews note minor inconsistencies, like the slightly dry sticky rice or the occasional blandness in items like the Cháo lòng, the overall impression remains strongly positive.

One notable point is the genuine, though sometimes chaotic, ambiance caused by the presence of children playing around. For some patrons, this reflects the lively character often found in family-run Vietnamese restaurants, adding a layer of authenticity to the dining experience. Others, understandably, find it distracting. Staff and ownership are commonly described as warm and amicable, contributing to a welcoming, down-to-earth vibe.

In terms of accessibility, Duong Melbourne offers convenient parking and a location that’s easy to reach from throughout Melbourne’s western suburbs. The pricing is reasonable, supporting its position as a go-to spot for those craving traditional Vietnamese comfort food without the pretense. Whether you’re after a casual lunch or an immersive dinner experience featuring regional specialities like the hearty pork and goat stews from Vietnam’s Northwest, Duong Melbourne stands out as a culinary gem worthy of exploration.

Food is amazing. Legit super authentic (other than the bún not being cubed). Everything was perfectly cooked, with great texture and crunch. Sauce was perfectly seasoned. Very reasonable pricing. The only complaint I have is the owner's or staff children. The mom tried to feed the boy, he's banging on the table and bowls with a spoon. He plays with other friend of the owner's kids. Screaming, yelling. Running and bumping into the waiter and waitresses and they have to stand there to try and avoid them. Super dangerous. I was scared. The kids even stand to touch customers table, using it to duck and hide. Very unprofessional. The food was so so good but why... ? It's not a good look

We ordered the medium-sized lòng dồi set, cháo lòng, bún ốc, and xôi xá xíu. Xôi xá xíu: Highly recommended! The sticky rice was soft, slightly sweet, and perfectly cooked with a hint of pea. The char siu pork was well-cooked—definitely a favorite (20/10). Lòng dồi set: Served with shrimp paste. The pork heart, intestine, and stomach were delicious and not stinky, though I wish the slices were a bit thicker (8/10). Cháo lòng: Decent, but a bit bland for my taste (7.5/10). Bún ốc: Disappointing—bland with too few and small snails. It didn't resemble traditional bún ốc (6/10). The space is large, but the tables were greasy, even after asking for them to be cleaned. However, the staff were very nice.

Perfectly cooked chicken, fragrant rice, and bright herbs — simple, honest, and delicious. I can really taste the freshness and balance in every element. A must-try Northern Vietnamese dish at Duong Melbourne!

We heard about this restaurant for awhile but havent got a chance to try the food here until recently. We ate here twice now and the experiences were both good. The food was great and well priced. We loved the crab hotpot. The sauce was divine, the soup was tasty and flavourful. Lots of toppings for the hot pot. Lunch was good too. I enjoyed my tofu noodle. Fish noodle was good too. The grilled pork sticky rice was a bit dry but still not bad. I saw the bbq set which was huge too. Will try it next time. Service was really great both times. I met the owner and her sister too. Both were super friendly and lovely. Excellent manners. Parking available in front of the restaurant. Highly recommended!!!

Been here a few times. Food was good. Service was average. Staff and even owners are kinda unorganised with setup. Sometimes it feels like a kindergarten with 10 different kids (from the owners and their friends) aged 7 and below, running around the restaurant screaming and coughing into your meal lol. On another note it kinda brings out the authentic chaotic experience often seen in Vietnam.

It is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants to find North and North West Vietnamese dishes. It is famous for blood sausage, pork intestines and North style porridge. We also found their crab hotpot and Vietnamese shredded chicken coleslaw are yummy too. However, recently I feel their blood sausages are less tasty now. Service is okay. Some of the staff's attitudes are bad sometimes but okay overall.
